“Practice What You Preach”

“Practice What You Preach”

You can know all the scriptures,
Have all the Quran you can reach,
But when push comes to shove
Do you practice what you preach?

Anyone can go to Masjid
And collapse on the floor,
But when Judgment Day comes
Will you be at Heaven’s door?

You can have the biggest of fits
And say the Holy Imam passed through,
But is that really reflected
In the things you do?

You can lecture others
About the wrong things they do,
But before you look at others
You need to look at you.

You can damn all the sinners
Tell them they’re headed south,
But what have you done lately
Besides run your mouth?

You can call yourself a Muslim
Spend all your days at Masjid,
But while you are praising His name,
Have you been doing the Allah’s work?

You can boast of good deeds
To show us the spirit is within
But why show it to us?
You should show it to Him!

You can memorize the Quran
Know it from front to back,
But you don’t use it to regulate others
Regulate how you act!

Take a good look at yourself
Not at what others do,
Because when the Prophet comes to get his children …
Will He was coming for you too?

I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it.
I can take you to the masjed, but I cannot make you believe.

I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you.
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish.
I can advise you about friends, but I cannot choose them for you.
I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure.
I can tell you the facts of life, but I cannot build your reputation.
I can warn you about drink, but I cannot say “no” for you.
I can warn you about drugs, but I can’t prevent you from using them.
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can’t achieve them for you.
I can teach you about kindness, but I can’t force you to be gracious.

I love you always like a child no matter how old you are.
