Sleep To Steal
Awake in the silence,
So deafening to my ears.
Only night can awaken such fears.
My thoughts so many roads to wander.
Upon which one tonight will I ponder?
The cry of my heart will silence with blood.
The gates will open to welcome the flood.
As the darkness shrieks wonder in the night,
My hand grasps the covers with fright.
We still have nightmares at age 38.
The only difference now is the fiend.
The silence and darkness still haunt our dreams.
Only now the demons are real,
Or so it seems.
Next time you feel that chill up your spine,
Open your eyes and see what you find.
The darkness holds many things,
Open your eyes too quickly and you might just find out…
