The Leaves

The Leaves

Today, the sky is dreary.
Today, the leaves are yellow.
Today, they’re giving back
The yellow of the sun.
Today, the sun is missing.
Today, they make it warm.
Today, they make me
Happy when the sky is sad.
Today, the leaves are
So bright, that they
Warm the world!

Secret Love

Secret Love

Dare I take a chance.
To start a new romance?
To taste forbidden fruit.
I would rip off your suit.
I wait for you to phone.
So we can share a few stolen moments alone.
I ask you for a hug.
I’m addicted – you’re my drug.
At work, we must not show our feelings,
Even though your touch sends me reeling.
You say you find me intriguing.
I want you to jump on me from the ceiling.
Where do we go from here?
I pray it doesn’t end up in tears.

Remaining Unrehearsed

Remaining Unrehearsed

A city of ancient ruins,
A landscape of desire.
Provoking many tunes,
Setting many fires.
A ladder to oblivion,
Climb one step at a time.
Must this be,
What we live within?
Are we seeking,
What we find?
Portraits of a gentle hour,
Remaining unrehearsed.
Shadows,
Of their power.
Remnants,
Of their curse.

Soul Envy

Soul Envy

Yes, I’ve seen it! – now and again
The knowing look
The slight leaning inward
Warm and alive even decades later
Seen it and turned away
Truth being painful and soul’s envy.
Tides turn – At times
Now I have what it was I’d seen!
Now others see and turn away
I understand, and wish it for them
They wonder at it
Even as their souls envy.
