Why Our Du’aas Are Not Answered

Why Our Du’aas Are Not Answered
Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee
from Khushoo’ fis-Salaah

IBRAHEEM IBN ADHAM – may Allaah have mercy on him – a third century scholar, a teacher and a companion of Sufyaan ath-Thawree, was asked about the saying of Allaah – the Most High:

“AND YOUR LORD SAYS: ‘CALL ON ME I WILL ANSWER YOUR PRAYER…” [40:60]

“We supplicate and we are not answered.”

So he said to them:
You know Allaah, Yet you do not obey Him,

You recite the Qur’aan, Yet do not act according to it,

You know Shaitaan(Devil), Yet you have agreed with him,

You proclaim that you love Muhammed, (P.B.U.H) Yet you abandon his Sunnah,

You proclaim your love for Paradise, Yet you do not act to gain it,

You proclaim your fear the Fire, Yet you do not prevent yourselves from sins,

You say “Indeed death is true”, Yet you have not prepared for it,

You point out the faults with others, Yet you do not look at your faults,

You eat of that which Allah has provided for you, Yet you do not thank Him,

You bury your dead, Yet you do not take a lesson from it.”

poem 353

Come here and place your hand across my mouth

When I said you were beautiful it was true

You took an old cat and drowned it

How anybody could I really don’t know

But death is the friend of your frenzy

What meaning comes from meaningless words

more than words you meant to say?

far down within the ends of the world

where the good and the bad and the worst and the best

There shrines and palaces and towers

(Time-eaten towers that tremble not!)

Death is beauty

Silence my whispers

but I didn’t mean it

I just had to tell you.

you said you meant not to

Lo! Death is beauty

in a strange city lying alone

have gone to their eternal rest.

Resemble nothing that is ours.

Around, by lifting winds forgot,

Resignedly beneath the sky

The melancholy waters lie.

But light from out the lurid sea

Streams up the turrets silently —

No rays from the holy heaven come down

On the long night-time of that town;

Gleams up the pinnacles far and free —

Up domes — up spires — up kingly halls —

Up fanes — up Babylon-like walls —

Up shadowy long-forgotten bowers

Of sculptured ivy and stone flowers —

Up many and many a marvelous shrine

Whose wreathed friezes intertwine
The viol, the violet, and the vine.

Resignedly beneath the sky

the melancholy waters lie.

So blend the turrets and shadows there

that all seem pendulous in air,

While from a proud tower in the town

Death looks gigantically down.

There open fanes and gaping graves

Yawn level with the luminous waves;

But not the riches there that lie

In each idol’s diamond eye —

Not the gaily-jeweled dead
Tempt the waters from their bed;

For no ripples curl, alas!

Along that wilderness of glass —

No swellings tell that winds may be

upon some far-off happier sea —

No heaving hint those winds have been

on seas less hideously serene.

But lo death is beauty; a stir is in the air!

The wave — there is a movement there!

As if the towers had thrust aside,

in slightly sinking, the dull tide —

As if their tops had feebly given

a void within the filmy Heaven.

The waves have now a redder glow —

The hours are breathing faint and low —

And when, amid no earthly moans,

Down, down that town shall settle hence.

Repentance (Taubah)

Repentance (Taubah)

The Arabic word for repentance is Taubah which translated literally means to return.

Repentance means to leave what Allah has prohibited and to return to what he has commanded.

Allah has encouraged the believers to repent with sincere repentance.

O you who believe! Turn to Allah with sincere repentance!
[Surah At-Tahrim Ayah: 8]

In another ayah Allah has said

But as for him who repented (from polytheism and sins, etc.), believed (in the Oneness of Allah, and in His Messenger Muhammad saws), and did righteous deeds (in the life of this world), then he will be among those who are successful.
[Surah Al-Qasas Ayah:67]

So we should repent to Allah and submit before him. Indeed even the Prophet (saws) used to ask Allah for his forgiveness even though he was the Prophet and was sinless. We see that despite this he used to repent to Allah more than 70 times a day.

“O people, make tawbah to Allah. By Allah, I make tawbah to Him more than seventy times each day.”
[Bukhari]

Even though the Prophet (saws) was never displeasing to Allah he asked Allah for His forgiveness, how much more so should the sinners?

The Prophet (saws) encouraged everyone to repent to Allah as a means of purification from the sins. The Prophet (saws) used to say every morning he used to ask Allah for forgiveness at least 100 times.

Abdullah ibn `Umar said: We counted in a single sitting the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, saying one hundred times:

“Rabbi-ghfir-lee wa tub `alayya innaka anta-t-tawwabu-l-ghafoor.”

(My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance, verily you are Acceptor of Repentance, Oft-Forgiving.)

[Ahmad, Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah]
And the best time for repentance is in the morning and the night, in that we may start our day with repentance and end our day with repentance.

The Prophet (saws) has said

Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, stretches out His Hand during the night so that the people repent for the fault committed from dawn till dusk and He stretches out His Hand during the day so that the people may repent for the fault committed from dusk to dawn (He would accept repentance) before the sun rises in the west (before the Day of Resurrection).
[Muslim]

So we should endeavor to keep our hearts pure and our tongues moist with repentance to Allah in that he may forgive us our sins.

Shaddad Ibn ‘Aus (RA) narrated, the Prophet (PBUH) said:

“The most superior way of asking help (forgiveness) from Allah is to say:

‘Allahumma Anta Rabbii la ilaha illa Anta, Khalaqtanii wa ana ‘abduka,
wa ana alaa ‘ahdika wa wa’dika mastata’tu,
a’udhu Bika min sharri ma sana’tu, abuu’u Laka Bini’matika ‘alayya,
wa abuu’u bidhanbii, faghfirlii fa’innahu la yaghfiru Adh-dhanbu illa Anta.’

What translated in English means,

O Allah, Thou are my Lord! There is no god but Thee, It is Thee Who created me, and I am Thy servant, I am faithful to my covenant and my promise to Thee to my best ability, I seek refuge with Thee from all the evil I have done, I acknowledge before Thee all the blessings Thou have bestowed upon me, and I confess to Thee to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins but Thee.

The Prophet (PBUH) then added:
If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of the Paradise.”
[Bukhari]

Thus the Prophet (saws) advised us to repent to Allah and also to ask Him for his forgiveness.

Allah has encouraged and ordered us to repent to Allah, surrendering to him completely before we face him on the day of judgement. Thus we need to repent and seek Allah’s forgiveness before we face death for at the time of death repentance will be of no benefit to us.

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

The Prophet (saws) said, “Amongst the men of Bani Israel there was a man who had murdered ninety-nine persons. Then he set out asking (whether his repentance could be accepted or not). He came upon a monk and asked him if his repentance could be accepted. The monk replied in the negative and so the man killed him. He kept on asking till a man advised to go to such and such village. (So he left for it) but death overtook him on the way. While dying, he turned his chest towards that village (where he had hoped his repentance would be accepted), and so the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment quarreled amongst themselves regarding him. Allah ordered the village (towards which he was going) to come closer to him, and ordered the village (whence he had come), to go far away, and then He ordered the angels to measure the distances between his body and the two villages. So he was found to be one span closer to the village (he was going to). So he was for given.”
[Sahih Muslim]

There are numerous hadith abound with stories of the sahabah before they became Muslims who used to fight against Allah and his Messenger (saws), and after accepting Islam we see that they went on to become leaders of the Muslims. Rather, we should repent to Allah because as is mentioned in the hadith above that Allah opens his hand during the day for the sinners of the night to repent to him and he opens his hand during the day for the sinners of the day to repent to him.

O Allah grant us the sincere repentance and accept is from us, verily You are the All Hearing, the All Knowing. Amen.

Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?(13: Sura e Rehman)

WHERE DID HE GO

We meet only a week ago
We vowed our lives together
We shared the same dreams and goals
We were a match made from heaven by Allah
She would not let go she stole him away from me
My heart bleeds every minute we are apart
My heart will shatter in a matter of days
Be broken beyond repair my love is gone afar
I miss him I need him , love him
I understand why he left
To finish the unfinished.

old poems I wrote and just remembered so am putting them on my main page

HUSBAND AND WIFE

Husband and Wife

We are through thick and thin
Sometimes times are rough other times they are happy

I love you and care about you to show my love by doing the little things that count
Like scratch your itchy back, rub your sore limbs after a long day at work.
Waking at the hour of four to kiss

You as you run out the door to work .
I love and care about you it pains me to see you tired

Alone and Suffering

You see her standing there

The blank sonic look  on her face

You ask her what is wrong

She replies I’m fine

When in reality she is in pain

She hides the pain and hurt no one sees it

She cries herself  to sleep

In the morning she struggles her day

She has given up on ever finding a  friend

She silently prays that the pain will end

She has battled this demon that people call loneliness and depression she don’t know when

No one understands and care how she feels

She silently Prays that Allah will grant her relief

She feels isolated from the muslim community never really fitting in anywhere

Mostly she stays to herself , best thing you could do to help her is reach out offer to have tea or just talk loneliness hurts more than you know

Please do not judge her she is trying her best to survive  taking it one day at a time

Kindness and caring go along way so does saying as salam alikum sister how are you doing and actually listening because under the softly spoken I’m fine there is a catch and pause in her voice and the look in her eyes cries I’m not ok please hug me and let me know I’m not alone!

But most of the time it is ignored and she just suffers in silence alone as always
