Thomas Merton’s Prayer

Most days I feel like this poem

Therese J. Borchard

I pray Thomas Merton’s prayer every day for discernment. In case you’re not familiar with it, I thought I’d share it here.

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahed of me.

Invisible I Am

I will never have a big fancy house.
I will never have a new or fast car.
I will never have the trendy or cool clothes.
I don’t have many friends because I don’t easily open myself up.
I look at people and they look right through me.
I have all the time in the world but none is given to me.
I’m not given a second thought because I’m not thought about first.
My heart aches for love and my soul screams for it’s mate.
but only silent echos are returned.
Happiness a fading memory, a forgotten dream from childhood.
Have I nothing to give or offer to suffice ones wanting desires.
Would I even be remember If I disappeared.
I am not really here, I live but I’m not alive.
I speak but I am not heard.
I am invisible.
